After five years, I’ve finally had the chance to get back to my Bloodrunners series at Harlequin Nocturne and I’m over the moon. This series and its characters have been near and dear to my heart for so long now, and I’ve been looking forward to returning for what feels like forever. But it was anything but easy.
First, there were practical issues, such as the sheer amount of time that had passed since I’d worked within this world. Before I could even think about starting, I had to go back and refresh all the details in my head. Characters, places, plots! But it was a lot of fun to revisit the first three books, so I really enjoyed that aspect of the process. The terrifying part was making sure that I got it right! I knew that if I wanted readers to feel that Dark Wolf Rising was worth the wait, then it would have to hold its own in the Bloodrunners series and “fit” with the other books. Making sure that it had the right “vibe” was at the front of my mind the entire time I was working on Eric and Chelsea’s story, and I hope readers will feel that I captured the heat, humor and action that was so much a part of those first books. The feedback has been wonderful so far, and I’m hopeful that all my stressing paid off! If it has, I have to give all the credit to Eric and Chelse, because they were a blast to write about, and now I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the books for the other two Drake siblings. Elise is up next in Dark Wolf Running, and after her story readers will finally get the chance to meet the banished Eli. (I so looove that wicked mercenary!) Fans of the series have been so awesome in keeping the enthusiasm for the Bloodrunners going and I simply can’t thank them enough. They’re the reason why I was so eager to get back to the series, and they’re the reason I’ll continue to write books for this loveable, crazy, sexy bunch of characters.
So are there any series out there that you’re waiting for a book from? For me, it has to be Joe’s story in Lisa Kleypas’ Travises series. I loved the first three books . . . and have been waiting impatiently to find out what happens with the youngest Travis brother. I’m hoping Lisa will take mercy on me soon!! *g*
