We sat down Alexis Morgan, author of Savage Redemption (Harlequin Nocturne, September 2012) for an interview — well, I sat at the computer and emailed Alexis some questions, and I can only assume she was also sitting when she replied

Q) Conlan and Kat have some serious history in Savage Redemption. What would you like readers to know about your hero and heroine?
Alexis: I found Conlan fascinating. When I first ‘met’ him in the previous book, Vampire Vendetta, I saw him as a middle-aged former lawman settling into his new job as security chief on Rafferty O’Day’s estate. Really, he was someone to answer the call whenever anyone knocked on the front gate. That image of him refused to come into focus. Then he not so calmly explained to me that he was a hero in need of a book of his own. That even though he’d nearly been destroyed three years before by the woman he loved, he needed a little happy back in his life. I gave into his demands but with a twist of my own—the only way Conlan was really going to get his life back was to face his past. And that meant, Kat had to coming knocking at that gate.
Q) What draws you to writing paranormal romance?
Alexis: I love the world building that goes into writing paranormal romances. I think it adds another powerful layer to the stories with a heightened atmosphere and sense of danger. I also love all the creative twists authors come up with on any given mythology. Just look at all the different types of vampires there are in the current romance market: vamps who are born, vamps who are made, and even vamps who sparkle!
Q) What do you think it is about vampires that still entices readers?
Alexis: It’s a lot of things. Vampires are portrayed as powerful warriors who fight to defend their kind, their clan, and the woman they love. I also think it’s the idea of the heroine being the one woman in centuries who captures his heart and bring peace to his life. And there’s just something about the mysterious man of the night that really works for me, both as a reader and a writer.
Q) If Savage Redemption were made into a movie, who would you cast as the leads?
Alexis: I can see Jeremy Renner as Conlan because he has the right intensity to fit Conlan’s personality. For Kat, I’m thinking Kate Beckinsale because she can play a strong heroine, the kind who would insist on standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the hero to fight their battles together.
Q) Do you have a favorite scene from the book?
Alexis: It’s so hard to choose, but one is a scene where the enemy appears at the gate to the estate and demands to take custody of Kat and her nieces. Conlan and his buddy Finn have to face them down. Despite the danger, Conlan and his young friend made me laugh with their wisecracks and comments. Still, it’s the scene where Conlan realizes that he can’t just throw Kat to the wolves.
Q) What/who are some of your favorite paranormal romance books and authors?
Alexis: There are so many, so this is a very incomplete list. I love Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Angela Knight, and Jennifer Ashley.
