A Vampire Under the Mistletoe & Giveaway, by Laurie London

by Laurie London, author of “Enchanted by Bloodin A Vampire for Christmas (HQN Books, November 2011)

Earlier this year, when I was asked to write a holiday-themed novella for the anthology A VAMPIRE FOR CHRISTMAS, I was really excited. Not only do I love that time of the year, but I was up for the challenge of pairing vampires and Christmas, two seemingly opposite elements, wouldn’t you say?

And what a thrill it was for me when I heard the other authors were Alexis Morgan, Caridad Pineiro and Michele Hauf. Three very talented writers. If any of you have read the acknowledgments in my debut book Bonded By Blood, you’ll know why Alexis is such a special friend.

As spring daffodils and crocuses bloomed in my garden, I played Christmas music and got into the holiday spirit. If you followed my Facebook author page back then, you may remember me laughing about how strange and fun this was.

I imagined bundling up and looking at holiday window displays. Seeing twinkle lights everywhere, including the Space Needle and the boats on Elliott Bay. Decorating trees. Spending time with family. Driving through snowstorms. Shopping for last minute supplies. Planning and attending parties.

With a dangerously handsome vampire hero, of course.

As I thought about the characters, I kept seeing a raven-haired woman on a stepladder, decorating a fireplace mantel with greenery and candles. Behind her stood a gorgeous man in a well-tailored suit, his arms folded across his chest, an angry scowl plastered to his face. I wondered who these people where and what was going on.

In the novella “Enchanted By Blood”, which is set in the Sweetblood world, former Guardian Trace Westfalen is poised to take over his father’s seat on the Council, but he won’t be voted in if he’s in a relationship with a human. Party planner Charlotte Grant feels an odd connection to the man who hired her to decorate his home for a big holiday party, but she’s never met him before…or has she?

As things heat up between them and danger closes in, Trace has a difficult decision to make: Tell Charlotte the truth about what happened last year and risk everything, or lie and disappear from her life forever.

I’m giving away a signed copy of A VAMPIRE FOR CHRISTMAS to one lucky commenter, but you must answer this very important question.

What kind of paranormal hero would you want to kiss under the mistletoe? (I know what my answer will be.)

I would have to say a werewolf or a vampire. I can’t decide on one, so I pick both. 2 would be fun. I think both are great alpha males, strong, fierce, and super sexy. Plus I would love to be bitten, just a little by either. LOL.

  2. paranormal hero would I want to kiss under the mistletoe would be to find out my honey was a celtic warrior and as he kissed me under the mistletoe all his memories come back. He has some wonderful paranormal powers. yum yum.

  3. That would be a vampire! They are my favorite creatures and I find them mysterious and alluring. And no sparkle is needed either :-)

  4. I would have to pick a Mage. Pritkin from the Cassie Palmer series would be great!

  5. Just stopping by to say hi! I think I’d go for a vampire–the trouble would be in picking just one because there are so many to choose from!

Tough one but I say vampire. Sexy, strong and very different from us.

  22. My paranormal choice would be: A sexy Jinn. Perhaps the one in the erotica/paranormal novels of Lousia Burton. Grrrr, Baby! He not only knows exactly what you want, need and crave…but he’s a Jinn and can do some pretty magickal stuff:)
