C.E. Murphy’s Favorite Book…So Far

Cop-turned-shaman Joanne Walker is back in a new Walker Papers novel from C.E. Murphy! And C.E. says DEMON HUNTS is her favorite book yet. Find out why in today’s blog post!

Shh. Don’t tell my other books, but DEMON HUNTS is my favorite so far.

Actually, that’s probably the kind of thing I shouldn’t tell you, the reader, either. It probably sets up expectations, but the thing about that, of course, is everybody reacts to books differently, even the writer. So just because it’s my favorite Walker Papers so far doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be yours.

Still, there are a bunch of reasons it’s my current favorite. One is that a friend who’s been reading the Walker Papers all along recently finally got a chance to read “Banshee Cries”, the Walker Papers novella in the anthology WINTER MOON. He mentioned what a shock it was to read a story set at the beginning of Joanne’s journey as a shaman, compared to where she’d grown to emotionally and how she’d developed in the more recent books. I feel a lot of Jo’s growing up really culminates in DEMON HUNTS (though she’s got a ways to go yet!), and so it’s really a deeply satisfying book for me as the writer.

Then there’s the more emotional side. There’s a scene in it that makes me cry. Can’t go wrong when you make yourself cry, I figure! And another scene that no matter how many times I read it, it makes me happy (I bet you’ll recognize that scene when you get to it).

Moreover, for those of you who’ve been just dying for it, there’s even a bit more romance in DEMON HUNTS–though it might surprise you how that turns out.  (Muahahaha.)

So I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Let me know–I’ll be waiting to hear!

  3. All of the Walker Papers books are excellent, but I think each new development slides the current book into favourite status. The character development is really good, and the surprise you sprung on us is superb. I love your stories, period.

I had the opportunity to review Demon Hunts & have to say I loved it.

It is my first book in the Walker Paper books. I had a little trouble with all of her internal dialogue but about 1/3 way through I forgot all about it. I liked the depth and emotion of the characters and I couldn’t wait to see how she was goingto defeat it.

I don’t know that I would go back and read the earlier books buti definitely want to read the next one when it comes out. My review can be found at http://everybodyneedsalittleromance. com

  5. I really like this one too – at times, it almost reminded me of the Wheel of Time series at its most compelling. Can’t wait for the next!
