Do You Find Wings and Horns Sexy? by Michele Hauf

What comes after vampires & werewolves? For paranormal romance author Michele Hauf, it’s angels and demons! Michele’s here to blog about her newest miniseries “Of Angels and Demons”, that launches this month with ANGEL SLAYER from Harlequin Nocturne and HALO HUNTER from Nocturne Bites…

For my newest series, Of Angels and Demons, I’m exploring, well, angels and demons.  There’s a few vampires tossed in there as well, because I can’t seem to keep those dudes out of my stories.  In this series the angels aren’t necessarily the good guys and the demons may be serving on the side of good.  I used some of the mythology from the Book of Enoch to craft my angels, but when it came to how they physically look, it had a little fun.

First, I’m not actually sure I have a good idea of what an angel would look like should it show up on my doorstep one day.  I toy with the notion they may not have fluffy white wings, nor even look human.  I think, in this life and world I’m living in right now, an angel may be more of a feeling or emotion.  But in my fictional world, the angels who fall to earth take on male form, and a very buff form at that.  Sexy?  Oh yeah.  Muscles?  Have you seen the cover for Angel Slayer?  Whew!

But what about wings?  I’m afraid to say my angels would not have wings like those depicted on the cover.  Instead, each angel’s wings are indicative of their particular craft, such as metalworking, painting, stonework, fire, binary code, etc.  The list is endless. Whatever you deem a creative art, then there’s an angel out there with wings to represent that art.  For example, the villainous Fallen one in Angel Slayer has wings of blade and gears.  His craft is some kind of technological metalworking.  I’ve another with copper wings, who taught mortals to work with copper.  There’s a one with coal wings who may or may not have something to do with diamonds, and yet another with amethyst wings.  Now, I know you’re thinking, wouldn’t those be awfully heavy?  Nope.  The consistency of the angel’s wings are ineffable and very light, actually, and they stretch out thirty or more feet from between their shoulder blades.  Personally, I’d love to see the hero of my second book in the series, Cooper, whose wings are of stained glass.  Wouldn’t that be a gorgeous sight?  And just so you know, they only wear wings in half form (half man/half angel), and that is rarely while they walk the earth.

As for the demons?  When in demonic form they are black and metallic and have horns that curl every which way on their heads.  A bit ugly, but the demon hero of Angel Slayer is actually pretty sexy when he takes that form.  (At least the heroine thinks so.)

So what about you?  Do you find wings and horns sexy?  What kind of wings would you like to see on an angel?

Michele

  5. Michele, I read both excerpts and I like the freshness of your world-building. I find interesting how you wrote Halo Hunter from the hero POV, so brilliantly. I’m putting these on my list of must read.
