One the Web: Two Paranormal Romance Articles

by Amy Wilkins, Harlequin Digital

Attention paranormal romance fans! (uh, that’s why you’re reading this blog right?) Vampires and werewolves have been popping up in the media all this week. (Could it be because a little movie called New Moon that came out this weekend? ;) ). Take a look at these two articles that debate the question over which paranormal hero takes the cake:

First up, CNN.com posted a piece today called “Vampire romance novels suck in readers”. Authors like Heather Graham and J.R. Ward as well as romance bloggers comment on what they love about these books.

Last week, Toronto newspaper The Globe and Mail ran the article “Fur v. fang: Why werewolves are sexier than vampires“. Among the reasons noted for the attraction to werewolves: they’re protectors, bad-boys, reflect man’s inner beast, and are primaly sexy. Among the authors quoted is Silhouette Nocturne’s Michele Hauf.

The Globe is also an intriguing list of actors the writer visualizes as werewolves or vampires. For example, Johnny Depp fits on the vamp side, while Gerard Butler (right) is a were.

So where do your loyalties lie–vamps or weres? And which other celebs would you categorize as in each creature camp?

  1. Thanks for the mention of the article in the Globe. The reporter actually had me send her a list of which actors I would classify as vamps or weres.

Here are some more of my picks:

    vamps:
    Johnathon Rhys Meyers
    Ewan McGregor
    Jared Padalecki
    James McAvoy
    Will Smith
    Orlando Bloom
    Keanu Reeves
    Daniel Day Lewis

    weres:
    Christian Bale
David Boreanaz (I know, but think about it)
Gerard still fits my were list even though he played a vamp
    Jensen Ackles (Sam vs. Dean!)
    Shia LeBeof
    Matt Damon
    George Clooney

  2. My loyalty is with Gerard Butler!! He can play any role, lol!
