Anna Hackett, author of the new Silhouette Nocturne Bite story Taken by the South Wind, joins our paranormal party and answers the question what part of paranormal romances she wishes were real. Find out her answer and share your own for a chance to win a copy of her story!
by Anna Hackett, author of Taken by the South Wind (Silhouette Nocturne Bites, Oct. 2009) and Wind Kissed, Fire Bound (Sept. 2009)
There are so many elements of paranormal romance I wish were real: the awesome powers, the supercool fighting abilities, getting to walk around in slick leather outfits (and look good in them!) And I confess to wanting to know how a vampire bite feels—the sexy, pleasure-inducing ones, not the nasty, painful ones.
The hero and heroine in my October Nocturne Bites, TAKEN BY THE SOUTH WIND, also have some abilities I’d like to test drive in real life. My hero, Dante Venti, is Keeper of the South Wind. He can control the wind, call it up on command and turn himself into the wind. He and his brothers (who control the other cardinal winds) use their powers to hunt down the evil Venti Tempesta – wicked winds that each hold a different vice.
The heroine, Samia Hassan is an assassin—a member of the secretive Hashshashin. She’s been sent to kill Dante. Samia isn’t quite human and in addition to being rather handy with knives, she can hide in the shadows—literally. She can blend her body into the darkness. Now that’s a skill that could come in handy.
But if I had to pick just one element of the paranormal to be real, one thing that really tempts me (and keeps me reading and writing paranormal romance) it would be the chance to tame a dangerous male. I’m sucked in every time by the dark, tortured, powerful hero who’s lived with his darkness, his duty, his empty life for so long, being saved by a strong heroine. I love to see these dangerous men find the woman who matches them, their partners, the one person who can touch their hearts. Sigh. How would it feel to be the woman who makes one of these men fall in love?
I had a fabulous time writing Dante and Samia’s story—where these two powerful beings realize that together they’re even stronger. And in the story I’m working on right now, I’m trying to give a powerful, stubborn vampire his happily ever after. The chance to see a dark, deadly hero meet his match keeps me reading and writing.
I’d love to hear from you now: which paranormal romance heroes would you love the chance to tame? I’m giving away a free download of Taken by the South Wind to one lucky commenter.
I’ll it kick it off – I’d love to tame Gregori or Darius (Christine Feehan’s Carpathians), Remy Begnaud (Sydney Croft’s ACRO series), Lucas or Riley (Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series) and any of Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with Qhuinn from JR Ward’s BDB so I’d definitely say him. Although I wouldn’t want to tame him entirely, because where’s the fun in that. I like his bad boy tendencies.

Maddox who has been merged with Violence, from The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. Lucan Thorne from Kiss of Midnight, by Lara Adrian. There’s something about those two dark, brooding, and dangerous men that is inescapable! Oh yeah, I can’t forget Lachlain from Kresley Cole’s, A Hunger Like No Other. How can you resist a Scottish Lykae, who senses his Mate is near and escapes centuries of torture to find her!

Hi Lou –
Good choices! Michele and Bonnie write some dangerous heroes – and Severo is a dangerous and sexy as they come.

Hi Jody –
You are so right, we wouldn’t want to completely tame them. Here’s to bad boys!

Hi Kim –
I love Maddox and Lucan! Both great dark, brooding heroes. Ooh, and sounds like I need to read A Hunger Like No Other.

Hi Amy–
Bring on the Lords of the Underworld – dark, sexy, dangerous but I get the feeling they dig being bad boys.

Any and every of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s antagonistic heroes from the Dark Hunter Series. Seems like every woman who actually gets the job has a unique quality about them that compliments the hero perfectly. In a perfect world, I’d have a mix of all of those wonderful attributes.

Hi Heather –
I think there are a lot of readers out there who’d like to tame some of the Dark Hunter boys! You touched on another good point — not only do we want to tame the heroes, we’d like to step into the heroine’s shoes and have some of their attributes.

My favorite by far is Paenther the feral warrior from Pamela Palmers Feral warrior series. He is the long dark haired Native American type. Tall, Dark and handsome. I would love to tame him, yeah in my dreams. lol

I don’t know, Severo would be nice to tame, I’m liking Michele Hauf’s Highwayman, he’s sexy and dangerous. And the Carpathians, Feehan sure writes a hot hero.

Hi Anna

Thank you for the great post.
I would love to tame Patricia Brigg’s Mercy or L.K. Hamilton’s Merry, or Richelle Mead’s Georgina.
All the best,

Hi RK–
You’re right, I should have said dangerous male or tough, spunky heroine! Selfish of me (-: Mercy and Merry are awesome heroines and I haven’t read any Richelle Mead but hear good things. Thanks for sharing!

What an interesting post Anna. Like you I love matching a heroine to an untamed, dark hero I think if a woman could tame *any* of JR Ward’s hero’s from the Black Dagger brotherhood she’d be doing very well indeed! =)

Hi Mel–
Another BDB fan! Those boys would keep a girl busy. And as a fellow romance author (with an untamed hero of your own) I know you love matching the right hero and heroine as much as I do!

Hi, I’m late to the party, but I gotta say, there’s a super list of heroes to tame here – better get reading!
I’m with Dottie – love the Highwayman, and I think that Dante in Anna’s newest Bites needs attention, too!
Great post, Anna!
