Ever wonder what happened to your favorite couple from a romance novel after it ended? For fans of author Michele Hauf, you can find out in After the Kiss, an eBook exclusive sequel to her novel Moon Kissed. Michele guest-blogs again to tell you what’s in store for her vampire and werewolf couple Bella and Severo next…
by Michele Hauf, author of Moon Kissed (Silhouette Nocturne) and After the Kiss (Silhouette Nocturne Bites)
Have you ever finished a book, satisfied that the hero and heroine got together and the world is right and you just have to smile because the journey was so awesome? I love reads like that. I don’t re-read often, but I have a select stack that I must re-read because I fell in love with the characters so deeply.
But have you ever wondered what happened to a fictional couple after their story? I mean, did the seriously just dance off into the sunset with butterflies fluttering about their heads, arms linked and the future so bright? Or, like real couples, did they have new and even tougher challenges to face that may or may not strengthen their relationship?
I’ve often thought about my own couples after I’ve completed a story. Some couples I’m completely satisfied that they will do well and will live a long and happy life together. Others, I really wonder about. Especially my paranormal couples. Can you imagine some of the challenges you’d have to face living with a vampire or werewolf? How can they possibly live HEA without something coming up?
I got the opportunity to explore one of my couples in the Nocturne Bites release After The Kiss. Bella and Severo (from Moon Kissed) really grabbed my heart and I couldn’t help but wonder how things worked out after ‘the last page’. I mean, did he ever completely accept her as a vampire? And what about her need to bite him? Did the proud wolf let a vampire bite him, marking him as an outcast from his own kind forever?
As a writer, it’s not often you get a chance to revisit beloved characters, so I jumped at the chance to take a look back into Severo and Bella’s life six months after Moon Kissed. And it wasn’t all romance and roses. But that was the fun part, because it made them more real to me that they didn’t just ride off into the sunset.
So what about you? What fictional couples would you love to read about a year or even more after their story? Where do you imagine they are in their relationship? Do you think they’re still together?

Very interesting idea to show us a bit of the couple after they “ride off into the sunset”. (or maybe moonlight, in this case
)
I think with romance novels they *must* still be together, that’s why we read them, for the happy ending. But as we all know, relationships aren’t always easy and there are still somethings to work out over time. Heck, even Jane Austen wrote a bit at the end of Pride & Prejudice that told readers how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth dealt with her family (especially the Wickhams) after they were married. So I like to think that even if my favorite couples have some bumps along the road after their story ends, they will still live Happily Ever After!

I like characters to not be swept away in a wave of lust, but to be set up with a workable relationship by the last page. I want to know the foundation is there for a strong long-term relationship.
