Author Kresley Cole on What’s Next for the Immortals After Dark & Win an ARC!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole takes a time-out from writing her next Immortals After Dark story to talk about the future of her award-winning series. Her upcoming releases include Deep Kiss of Winter (11/09) and Pleasure of a Dark Prince (2/10), both available for preorder from Pocket Books. Plus, find out how you can win a advance reading copy of her upcoming book!

Thanks for having me over–very happy to be here! Today, I hope to answer a question I’m often asked: What do you plan for the rest of the IAD series? I’ve listed a few of the highlights below. . . .

What you’ll see more of:

1. IAD installments–lots of ‘em. After Deep Kiss of Winter, a duology with the fantastically talented and winsome Gena Showalter, I’ll have at least four more books in the series!

2. Valkyries. In Deep Kiss of Winter, delicate Valkyrie Daniela the Ice Maiden is wooed by vampire Murdoch Wroth, a former Casanova, legendary for having all the right moves in and out of bed–except with Danii. When they’re together, he’s prone to tripping, unintended insults, and an embarrassing loss of, er, staying power.

Stealing much more screen time will be Regin the Radiant–who likes her men young, dumb, and hung. Find out why she behaves as she does, and if she and her reincarnating berserker, Aidan the Fierce, will finally get it right this time. Aidan, by the way, is exceptionally intelligent, untold centuries old, and only meets one of Regin’s requirements from above.

And of course we we’ll see more Nucking Futs Nïx. Apparently, readers enjoy her antics. Coincidentally, I *adore* writing them. See, readers? This is why we’re so right for each other. Don’t fight it, my love(s).

3. More overlapping timelines. I swear with each book that it’ll be the last time I pull this stunt, because–and here’s the thing–getting those timelines right is [expletive deleted] hard. And just to add stress to this foolish endeavor? The overlapping books must still be stand alone stories.

Weaving timelines leads to Red Bull abuse, premature aging, and husbands dodging thrown objects. [Sorry, Swede! Upside? You're getting really spry!]

Ah, but once I see the timelines of multiple books dovetailing. . . ? Sigh. That feeling’s a jot addictive. Regrettably, I can see me going down that dark, treacherous path again. Don’t make me go alone. Buy my books. Hold me.

4. More hot sexxors, and getting hotter. For years, I’ve been threatening to take the gloves off when writing love scenes. And I think I’ve finally browbeaten my editor into letting me go *crazy.* I’ve broken her. Ha-ha, just kidding, L, nobody’s broken. (I’ve totally broken her!)

5. Witches galore. Brazen Carrow the Incarcerated brings all her swagger and delinquency to center stage, while turning her poor hero’s life inside out. Who is her hero? you ask. Exactly who he shouldn’t be, I answer coyly.

6. More luxury goods of exorbitant costs. Life is long for immortals; luxury is nice crucial to survival. Plus, it’s fun to fictionally destroy. I could write about demons totaling two-million-dollar cars and Lykae biting off thousand-dollar panties all–day–long.

7. Segue to Lykae. Werewolf Garreth MacRieve’s story, Pleasure of a Dark Prince, comes out next February. We’ll see him battle to win the heart of mysterious Lucia the Huntress–and also how he’ll react when she drops a bombshell of an obstacle between them….

So, I hope you enjoy where the series is going! If you’re new to the IAD, and would like to see where it’s been, here’s the backlist:

1.   “The Warlord Wants Forever” in PLAYING EASY TO GET Feb 2006

2.    A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER April 2006

3.    NO REST FOR THE WICKED Halloween 2006

4.    WICKED DEEDS ON A WINTER’S NIGHT Halloween 2007

5.    DARK NEEDS AT NIGHT’S EDGE May 2008

6.    DARK DESIRES AFTER DUSK June 2008

7.    KISS OF A DEMON KING February 2009

8.    “Untouchable” in DEEP KISS OF WINTER (a duology with Gena Showalter) November 2009

9.    PLEASURE OF A DARK PRINCE February 2010

For those seasoned Loreans, thank you for all your support and readership!

TThis is another series I have piling up in my TBR’s. I like to get a bunch of tthe books and then read them. I have this thing for instant gratification.

I really need to get a better control on that TBR pile too. le sigh.

  4. Thanks for the tidbits. I’m looking forward to the upcoming books with more Nix antics and nail-painting.

  5. OMG! I can’t wait to get my hands on both those novels. I had such a blast reading the first 7 books in the series I need more! It was also great reading about the tidbits of the series from Kresley Cole herself.

I love your Immortals After Dark series. I ran across them with the release of Kiss of A Demon King. As I am not one to start something in the middle, I purchased the first book in the series and went from there. It was hard to let Kiss of a Demon King sit on my book shelf while waiting to finish the others, but I did it. I can’t wait for A Deep Kiss In Winter. I guess I’ll have to start over from the beginning while I wait!

My first memories of romance novels were as a young child. My mother would “escape” to the bedroom a juicy novel (to get some respite from we 3 hellions/daughters). I started reading them in my mid teens as did my older sister (the youngest has yet to be converted).

Now my family lives far away (Fl, La, and Costa Rica). Whenever we visit or send mail we try to include romance novels that we love. Our conversations are that much richer now because we have more in common with our reading.
Our favorite character by far as to be Nix, she proves its ok to be nuts, just as long as you are looking fab! The entire IAD world is amazing, as is the diversity of the characters. the action and humor just pull it all together.

My sister’s bday is coming up (7/20 actually) and the hunt is on for the next great sexy novel her collection!

Hi Kresley! I just love you IAD series. I have read all of your books so far and I think my favorite of the bunch is Cade and Holly’s story. Those two cracked me up, plus when they finally did stop fighting, the lovin was smokin hot! I am so excited that there is more to come on the IAD series. I was wondering if you had any plans for Sabine’s sister. Seems like there is story waiting to be told… :)

Please tell me that Nix’s story is one of the ones you’re currently working on! She deserves her own book– if only to see who you would pair her with! IAD is one of the few books on my must-ship-overnight list and we’re not going to discuss what happens when (as it always does) the newest book arrives on a work day (sniffle, sneeze, cough– no, really, I HAVE to work from home). What impresses me most is the character development– none of your heroines is spineless, but they’re all different from each other and deliciously so. Can’t wait to see what comes next! Is it November yet?

And hooray and a toast to more hawtness and err, browbeaten editors!

In a genre that is overflowing with parnamorals these days, I must say that the IAD are the go-to for me to get some refreshing story lines, to die for heroes, strong yet vulnerable heroines, and some guaranteed laugh out loud moments!

Can’t wait for the next two stories, but especially looking forward to Garreth and Lucia! Been wanting to see what happens with that pair ever since Lachlain and Emma! :)

Will Lothaire have his story? I’m intrigued.

  66. Kresley Cole

Cheers, all! Thank you so much for your wonderful comments—I loved reading them! It’s great to see old friends here and new ones as well. And thank you to Harlequin’s PNR blog for having me over. I had a fantastic time.

To answer a couple of questions…

Alas, I’m not working on Nïx’s book yet. She’ll come later in the series, but I can hardly wait. Nixie’s hero is her opposite in so many ways, so she drives him, dare I say, nuts. Definitely hope to do Lanthe’s story in the future, really have a soft spot for lovelorn characters. As for Gena and me being like popping percs and shooting Jack, well, if the shoe fits… ;)

I’ll be posting an excerpt of “Untouchable” at the end of June on my site if you’d like to come take a read, and be on the lookout for Gena’s excerpt of her brilliant story “Tempt Me Eternally” as well!

Big appreciative hugs for your comments and all my best wishes.

November cannot get here soon enough for me though.

  72. Jean Claudes Sexy Servant

This is definitely one of my favorite series. The valkyrie are hilarious and often have me laughing out loud! I even have my brother reading them, Even with all the sexy men on the cover! I think you have a terrific blend of all the different species. That everyone seems to be hooking up with someone of different is really cool. Love happens where it does and the relationships in the books reflect that. I Love hearing about all the hook ups in the future and I think the sex scenes are pretty hot and steamy now, will I burn up when I read future books since you are taking off the gloves?

BTW, Nix is the best, I cannot wait for her book. Please don’t tame her. I love the valkyrie just the way they are! Keep up the great work.

I love the IAD series. I picked up A Hunger Like No Other because it won the RITA and after not being able to put it down after the first line I devoured the rest of the series in no time flat.
Lachlain remains one of my all time favorite heros, though Bowen is a close second. I guess I can’t resist a tortured soul!
I can’t wait until November. Kresley and Gena in one book? My dreams have come true! And now your going to turn up the heat on the love scenes? Wow, my birthday must have come early.
Kresley, you rock, please don’t ever stop writing, you do such an amazing job. Your world building and characters are like nothing I have ever read before.
Are you going to do another Author Talk with Gena and Jill anytime soon? I laughed so hard at Gena’s interperative dances that I was crying. Also love all the cameos you do, how long did you have to stay behind that chair during Nora’s interview?
