I may be a jet pilot who’s scared of heights (outside the plane!) and has no sense of direction (in my car!), but when it comes to adventure, I know where to find it. And, my readers say, to write it. I pen tales about other worlds but my inspiration comes from this one–ours. Frequent visits to exotic locales like Shanghai, Sydney, and Singapore give me plenty of amazing material for my new Borderlands series for HQN! The lawless, dangerous Borderlands is a no-man’s land between two mighty civilizations that have just declared peace after a thousand years of war. Not everyone is happy about the treaty. Enemies fight…and also fall in love.
Readers sometimes ask for the order of the books. The series very loosely connected to the Otherworldly Men trilogy, which centers on an Earth family trying to thwart an alien invasion. (Your Planet or Mine 8/06, My Favorite Earthling 3/07, and How to Lose an Extraterrestrial in 10 Days 8/07). Those books were much lighter in tone than what I felt like writing next, yet I was so captivated by the “world” I’d created I didn’t want to leave it. So I decided to spin off from this series rather than continue it. Thus the Borderlands series was born!
My latest, The Warlord’s Daughter, follows Moonstruck (5/08), but it’s not necessary to have read Moonstruck first. If you have, then you’ll recognize Hadley and Bolivarr. This time you’ll also meet Wren: Imagine being the daughter of the Warlord, most hated man in the galaxy, wishing you’re nothing like him while fearing that you are. On the run for her life, Wren falls into Aral’s arms. The former battlelord, one of her father’s highest ranking warriors, is already half in love with her. He expected to rescue her, but Wren wants her freedom. It was a blast watching them learn to trust each other. Throw an ancient treasure into the mix, angry goddesses, a profiteering trader, and the entire galaxy on their tails, and you have one hot adventure ahead of you…
…And another on the horizon: my Space Pirate book, Borderlands #3. With a brief and passionate history they wish they didn’t share, legendary pirate captains Valeeya Blue and Dake Sureblood are sworn enemies. Now the chance to prove the truth about his clan’s role in her father’s murder has Dake agreeing to work for the Triad to terminate Val’s swashbuckling ways–if she doesn’t execute him first. But as the identity of the real killer becomes apparent, the one-time nemeses start getting cozy, and soon they’re sharing more than just a spaceship.
