What happens when you combine a witch, a phoenix vampire, and a deal with the devil? The sexy hero of Michele Hauf’s latest paranormal romance The Devil to Pay from Silhouette Nocturne! Michele’s here to tell you more…
by Michele Hauf, author of The Devil to Pay
My latest, THE DEVIL TO PAY, is in bookstores now. The hero, Ivan Drake, is the son of a witch and a phoenix vampire, so he was born virtually indestructible and with witch magic. But none of that is effective against the master he was literally born to: the devil Himself. You see, Ivan’s parents kind of, sort of, accidentally promised his soul to Himself before he was even conceived. Yeah, I know, heck of a way to start life. But Himself doesn’t claim Ivan’s soul until his 21st birthday, so he had a little time to enjoy freedom before being recruited as the devil’s fixer.
Okay, I admit it, I’m in love with Himself. He is a favorite character of mine, and he first appeared in KISS ME DEADLY (the story of Ivan’s parents). Himself is a charmer, for sure. Well, he’s the great tempter, so why wouldn’t he be? You see, he appears to mortals in the guise of their greatest temptation. So if you suddenly see Gerard Butler or Clive Owen walking down the street, straight towards you, you’d better take a moment to wonder if it’s really him, or perhaps the devil in disguise.
Himself never knows how he appears to others. He has to glance in a mirror if he’s interested in the mortal’s weakness. But Ivan only sees his true form, and it’s not pretty.
I get a lot of fan mail about Himself, and this story is as much his as it is Ivan’s. I’ve even introduced his girlfriend (yes, the devil dates), Bloody Mary. She’s a kick, literally. And did you know Himself was actually infatuated to the point of actual romance? You’ll find that story here too.
Now here’s something cool… If you read THE DEVIL TO PAY, and wonder what Ivna’s parents’ story is about, you’ll have the opportunity to download the complete KISS ME DEADLY on January 29th. Harlequin is celebrating it’s 60th anniversary, and they’ll be giving away 16 full-length books, one to represent each of it’s series. So be sure to stop into www.HarlequinCelebrates.com at the end of the month!
